Taping Theory — How It Works, Tape Types & Skin Prep

Before a single strip touches your face, understand why taping works: mechanical lift, lymphatic decompression, and muscle-tone regulation — and how to choose and prepare the tape correctly.

Your First Glabella Taping Protocol

Your actionable protocol from this lesson

  1. 1Clean and dry your face completely before starting.
  2. 2Measure a 1cm wide I-tape from your frown area to the top of your brow.
  3. 3Cut the tape and round the edges to prevent peeling.
  4. 4Tear the paper backing 1cm from the end to create your anchor.
  5. 5Apply the anchor above the eyebrow peak with zero tension.
  6. 6Press the remaining tape toward the center of your glabella.
  7. 7Rub the tape gently to activate the adhesive, and wear for up to 12 hours.

You are doing something brave by being here.

What You Will Learn

1

Taping acts mechanically on the skin, fascia, and lymphatic vessels to reduce puffiness and prevent premature aging.

Taping in aesthetics and cosmetology has an effective effect on skin, fascia, nerves, blood, and lymphatic vessels.
Good Evidence
2

Kinesiology tape mimics human skin elasticity, stretching up to 130-140%.

Tapes consist of a cotton base, providing elastic properties similar to human skin. They stretch by 130-140%.
Good Evidence
3

The anchor of the tape must always be applied with zero tension to establish a stable base.

Anchor. This is the tape end first applied to skin, attached without stretching.
Expert Opinion
4

Tape should be applied starting from lymph nodes or areas of minimal tension to support proper drainage and lift.

Apply tapes from the lymph nodes or in areas of minimal tension.
Expert Opinion
5

Taping the glabella can physically relax the corrugator muscles and smooth out frown lines.

This application helps relax corrugator muscles, brows and remove frown lines.
Good Evidence
Did You Know?

Kinesio taping was originally invented by a Japanese doctor who proved that by acting on the skin, you can profoundly impact the underlying tissues of the body.

# Taping Theory — How It Works, Tape Types & Skin Prep

Hello, dear ladies! I'm Maria Semenova. I'm a certified face fitness trainer, a member of Association of Face Gymnastics Trainers. I welcome you to the aesthetic course.

face taping. This topic excites my students, and the course on taping is a natural reaction to your grateful feedback after articles and Instagram live streams. In this course, we'll cover applications that can correct facial creases, reduce puffiness, increase or decrease muscle tone, and help combat functional disorders. Today, we'll explore taping, its origins, what tapes are, and their types.

Let's look at application types. and which ones we'll use in the course. We'll discuss facial taping rules and terms. we'll use during the course.

And if you loved cutting things as a child, you'll love this course! Aesthetic face taping is an effective method for lifting face and neck tissues. It's a facelift system using special tapes. Kinesio taping was invented by a Japanese doctor.

Kenzo Kase, who proved that by acting on the skin, you can act on the body. Taping in aesthetics and cosmetology has an effective effect on skin, fascia, nerves, blood, and lymphatic vessels. is an effective method for preventing premature aging skin folds, flabbiness, and puffiness. With taping, you can significantly reduce facial asymmetry.

One indication is facial modeling, giving face parts a desired shape. You don't need to invent stories, but within reason, the face can be corrected. With natural rejuvenation methods, by engaging your facial muscles, for example, with face fitness, you'll get max results. Let's look at tape properties.

Tapes consist of a cotton base, providing elastic properties similar to human skin. They stretch by 130-140%. One side of the tape has a hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive, in waves along tension. It's air and water permeable, dries very quickly.

Tapes come in rolls, and also in pre-cut shapes. I don't recommend pre-cut, as faces differ. The tape might not fit you lengthwise. I also want to go over the basic terms used in taping.

Anchor. This is the tape end first applied to skin, attached without stretching. The tension effect will always be towards the anchor. Target zone.

This is the zone where the application will be. Parking. The process of applying the tape, parking is the area where the tape is applied without tension. Reference zones.

These are places on face and body where tendons attach. Zones of minimal tissue stretching. It is on these we place the anchor. Factory tension.

Tape is applied to paper backing with 5-10% tension, so it doesn't lose elastic properties. When we say tension from paper, tape should be applied to skin immediately, not loose. Convolutions are skin folds formed due to skin tension difference. and the tape.

Tape shapes that will be used in this course. I-tape – a straight tape piece. V-tape – a straight piece of tape with a cut along it. with only the anchor zone left uncut.

O-tape – This is a flat section of tape with a cut inside the tape. Lymph tape. This is a flat tape section with several cuts, made along one end of the tape. Chinese lantern.

This is a flat tape section with several cuts. along the tension line inside. The choice of tape shape depends on the area and desired effect. Let's look at the taping techniques that will be used in this course.

Drainage technique corrects edema. congestion, and hematomas. For this technique, we will use I-tapes and lymph-tapes. The best effect is achieved by fixing the strip with pumping movements.

Corrective technique. It's used to correct the position of skin tissues, fascia, muscles. Modeling helps soft tissues take the most favorable position, which improves muscle function and shifts fat pockets to the desired position. Now, about application methods.

There are general rules for taping, applied in facial aesthetics. Apply to clean, healthy skin. Measure required length for target zone. Cut and round the ends.

Apply with patting or pumping motions on the skin surface. Apply tapes from the lymph nodes. or in areas of minimal tension. We've covered theory, now let's try the first application.

It will be a small one for the glabella. This application helps relax corrugator muscles. brows and remove frown lines. Take our tape and apply it from the frown area to the brow top.

This is our target zone, on both sides. In the middle, the tapes will meet and overlap each other. So, measure, cut the required length. The tape width is 1 cm.

Don't forget to round the ends. And we start the application. Tear off the paper backing approximately 1 cm from the start. Release the anchor.

And let it hang down a bit. The anchor will be placed above the top of the eyebrow. Attach it. And holding the anchor with one hand, separate the base from the paper.

And apply with pressing movements. to the glabella area. Repeat the same on the other side. Remove the anchor from the paper.

Let it hang freely. Apply it above the eyebrow's peak. Release the tape base. And with pressing movements, move to the center.

Then, smooth each tape three times from the end to the anchor. Our application is ready! You can wear the application up to 12 hours. then it must be removed.

We remove it from end to anchor. gently holding the skin with careful movements. Hold the skin and slowly move towards the anchor, making sure not to pull too hard. Our theoretical lesson is over.

Today was the simplest application. Next, it will be much more complex and interesting. See you at the practical lessons. Bye-bye!
