Your Face Massage Prep Protocol

Your actionable protocol from this lesson

  1. 1Gather your tools: a light cream or oil, water, and a Gua Sha (or spoon).
  2. 2Check your posture and take a moment to open your chest.
  3. 3Commit to practicing in the morning if you are prone to swelling.
  4. 4Prepare mentally for deep muscle work, accepting slight initial soreness.

You are doing something brave by being here.

What You Will Learn

1

Effective facial massage requires addressing posture, neck, and chest tension first.

To get a more effective result, you should definitely combine this program with Neck Without Pain and also with programs that open up your chest.
Expert Opinion
2

Deep muscle release must precede superficial lymphatic drainage for lasting results.

Until we work out the tense, spasming muscles in our face, any kind of light stroking practices will be pointless.
Expert Opinion
3

Gua Sha and facial massage tools should never be used on dry skin to avoid injury.

We never glide on dry skin, so as not to injure the skin.
Good Evidence
4

Initial deep facial massage may cause temporary soreness similar to body workouts.

Initially, there might be painful sensations, just like in your body muscles.
Expert Opinion
5

Morning facial massage is recommended for those prone to swelling to allow daytime lymphatic drainage.

If you're prone to swelling, do these lessons in the morning... at night your lymph system rests, so you'll wake up with the same puffiness.
Good Evidence
Did You Know?

Facial massage results are significantly improved when combined with chest and neck opening exercises.

A Note From Your Doctor

Never glide a Gua Sha tool on dry skin. Always use a light cream or oil to protect your skin barrier and prevent abrasions.

A major skincare mistake we make as we mature is not changing up your skincare at night. #olaypartner Luckily there are affordable and effective options like the @Olay Skin Care Super Serum Night Repair and Retinol 24 Hour Moisturizer.  Don't sleep on OLAY (or do! 😉).

Lesson Guide

# Welcome: Meet Your Face

Hello, I'm happy to see you in this facial massage course. By your request, we've shortened the warm-up exercises and added more facial massage to this program. What will you need? You'll need either a light cream, or you can just have wet hands and a bowl of water. You will need a Gua Sha tool, If you don't have one, no worries, you can use your fingers—I'll explain everything. Instead of a Gua Sha tool, you can use a regular spoon, either a dessert or a tablespoon. And you can use a ball for the areas I'll mention, which is mainly the chest area.

If you don't have a ball, same thing, no worries, you can do everything with your fingers. What should you pay attention to? To get a more effective result, you should definitely combine this program with Neck Without Pain and also with programs that open up your chest. This means a healthy back and beautiful posture. If you have that goal, please add those workouts a few times a week too. As for the face, we're all different, we have different facial issues—some have more pronounced smile lines, some have forehead wrinkles, some have a sagging jawline. And for the first half of this program, about the first 7 workouts, I'll be giving you deeper massage techniques.

Pay attention to them, and you can do them for a bit longer. You can even go through these first seven workouts for two full rounds. Why? Until we work out the tense, spasming muscles in our face, any kind of light stroking practices will be pointless. You'll just be moving water around your face, yes, some puffiness might go away, but it will be very short-lived. If you work more deeply with your muscles, as I show in the first 7 workouts, then we'll move on to a comprehensive massage and engage the entire face in each lesson. Understood?

I will try to explain all of this to you again. You don't need to apply a lot of cream in our sessions, nor do you need to apply a lot of oil. Only in cases when we are working with a Gua Sha scraper. We never glide on dry skin, so as not to injure the skin. And most importantly, please note this, you should not have any bruises or abrasions. That is, we work with Gua Sha very gently, and it's better to do it superficially until you get used to it. Everything that involves fingers, the same applies.

Initially, there might be painful sensations, just like in your body muscles. When you do lunges, your muscles might feel a little sore. Don't be afraid. For example, if you have puffy eyes and we're working on that area in the first lessons, the puffiness might increase, but it will go down. If you're prone to swelling, do these lessons in the morning. Once you get used to it, you can do these lessons at night too. It's just that at night your lymph system rests, so you'll wake up with the same puffiness.

If you do these workouts in the morning, the puffiness should be gone within an hour. Well then? Let's begin. Be sure to read the contraindications. I won't waste time on it. All details are in the description.
